Older Children

When your baby was first born, was first placed in your arms, it felt so perfect, so natural. And, your feelings of love were overwhelming.

Most new mothers experience similar feelings after they have given birth to a child. For some mothers, it confirms the decision to parent; for others it changes a decision to make an adoption plan for that child into one to parent. For every young woman or couple experiencing an unplanned or untimely pregnancy, every decision has to be revisited after the experience of birth.

What happens when you are five, six, or even twelve months down the road of parenting? There is no question that you still love your child immensely, but parenting takes more physical and emotional energy than you expected. The promised help has not been as consistent as you had hoped. Most important, you do not feel able to provide the kind of stability and consistency that your child needs - and needs now.

What can you do? If you are considering an adoption plan, it is not too late. There are many families that would love and take care of your child. You can even plan for an open adoption. You have given your child a wonderful beginning of life with your love and care. If an adoptive family can best meet your child’s needs now and for the foreseeable future, you can still make an adoption plan.
