Domestic Adoption Fees
Adoptive families are expected to reimburse BETHANY for the costs associated with services rendered. The adoptive fee of $20,000 assists with covering the costs related to all phases of the adoptive process including:
- orientation and preparation of the prospective adoptive family
- completed family assessment
- presentation of profiles to prospective birthparents
- evaluation of the appropriateness of a proposed placement
- provision of background information about the child
- ongoing support throughout the adoption process
- supervision of the placement, including reports to the court
- preparation of legal documents for the court finalization process
- maintenance of records on the child and family as required by state laws and licensing regulations
A legal fee of $2000 for the Termination of Parental Rights (TPR) is also
included in the Bethany fee of $20,000. With a Bethany recommended attorney, less than $3000 can be anticipated in legal fees for the finalization of the adoption. Pregnancy related expenses, including medical expenses not covered by a birthmother’s insurance and/or Medicaid are
typically covered by
Choose Life funding and
not adoptive families. In individual cases where there are outstanding medical costs, the adoptive family would be responsible for those expenses. However, if there is a need beyond what Choose Life covers that are not medically related, financial assistance would be at the discretion of the adoptive family.

*Actual Legal Expenses associated with the adoption are the responsibility of the adoptive family. From the aforementioned fees, Bethany Christian Services will pay an attorney a retainer of $2000.00 towards Termination of Parental Rights costs; any costs beyond that amount will be billed to and are the sole responsibility of the adoptive family. Additional fees associated with the Final Decree of Adoption are the responsibility of the adoptive family. All adoptive families have the right to consult with and/or retain a lawyer of their choice regarding the legal process of adoption or regarding this contract.
Bethany Birthparent Retainer Fee: $2000.00 (Refundable, due at time of birth mother selection)
Bethany Christian Services requires a retainer of $2000.00 be paid at the time of birth mother selection on cases where expenses have occurred and/or are expected to occur. Any unused portion of this retainer will be refunded to the family upon completion of the adoption. Bethany Christian Services also has access to Choose Life Funding, when available, which can be applied to these expenses before being passed on to the adoptive family.
