Embryo Donation: A Loving Choice
Through the use of in vitro fertilization (IVF), thousands of couples have been blessed with children. For a number of couples, there is also an unintended result—frozen embryos that they no longer intend to use. A difficult decision must be made. What should such couples do with these precious embryos that are being stored in cryopreservation?

Thankfully, there is a loving choice for those with unused frozen embryos--embryo donation and adoption.

What is Embryo Donation?
By means of an informed consent agreement (or contract), couples with unused embryos can choose to donate their embryos to an infertile couple. Once responsibility for the embryos has been legally transferred to a receiving couple, all responsibilities for the embryos and any resulting children are fully theirs.

A trained physician can then thaw a select number of the embryos and transfer them to the womb of the intended mother. If a successful pregnancy and birth results, the son or daughter who is born becomes the legal son or daughter of the couple who gives them birth. Such a couple becomes, in effect, the adoptive parents of the child.

Embryo Donation: A Blessing for All
Embryo donation is a blessing for everyone involved. For the couple who donates their embryos, it is a positive, life-affirming way to resolve a challenging dilemma. For the adopting couple, it can be a beautiful opportunity to experience pregnancy and childbirth. And for the embryos themselves, embryo donation provides an opportunity to grow, become born, and live a full life.
