Types of Adoption

After you have chosen an adoption facilitator, you need to ask yourselves, "What kind of relationship do we want to have with our child's adoptive family?" The best way to answer that question is to learn as much as you can about the three options for adoption plans: open, semi-open, or confidential.

Historically, adoptions were completely confidential. Throughout the l980s, there was a move toward including openness in adoptions. Although most adoptions are now semi-open with very positive results, no one plan is right for each circumstance. The following is a review of the issues involved in open, semi-open, and confidential adoptions.
