Bethany Wisconsin, and the partner agencies, are proud to offer Understanding Infant Adoption training to Wisconsin health practitioners, social workers, and interested others. Spaulding for Children Michigan developed the one-day curriculum through a grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Infant Adoption Awareness Training Program. This training is being replicated in a number of states, including Wisconsin.

The Adoption As An Option training program is designed to help health care professionals serving pregnant women and teens discuss adoption as an option with patients and clients who are not sure if they want to parent the child.

You are eligible to attend if you are staff (nurses, social workers, technicians, educators, physicians, etc.) employed by:
  • Public health departments, public hospitals, nonprofit hospitals, public health departments or private, nonprofit agencies
  • Nonprofit clinics, e.g. Planned Parenthood, Teen Health centers, school-based health clinics (public and private schools)
  • If you are a health professional that interacts with pregnant women
  • If your employer provides health care education

Understanding Infant Adoption
The curriculum is approved for continuing education credit for nurses and social workers. In this pertinent update, participants will examine current trends in infant adoption and how adoption has changed through the years. They will explore Wisconsin adoption law and practices, birthfathers’ rights and responsibilities and special issues in counseling teens. They will also examine the social and cultural influences on adoption decisions. Each participant receives a comprehensive manual

Adoption As An Option
(Training can be held at your regularly scheduled in-service or staff meeting day.)

This training is geared toward healthcare professionals serving pregnant women and teens and their families. Participants will learn how to discuss adoption as an option with patients and clients deciding whether to parent a child. Especially for nurses, social workers, medical technicians, educators, physicians employed by hospitals, health departments, Title X agencies and school-aged parenting programs. The training, snacks, CEU’s and materials are all FREE to eligible participants as the training is fully funded through DHHS grant # 90 CG 0002 to Spaulding for Children for which Bethany Christian Services is the lead agency in Wisconsin. The curriculum delivery methodology includes lecture, discussion, demonstration, team activities, and video case vignettes.
