FGDM

Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) offers an innovative approach to working with families involved with the child welfare system. Recognizing that families are capable of making responsible decisions for their members and that solutions to problems often lie within the family unit, FGDM seeks to divert children from foster care, placing them instead with relatives at the time of their removal from parental custody due to child abuse or neglect. FGDM is a partnership between families, communities, and the state and inherently fosters cooperation, collaboration, and communication. Biological parents and extended families are empowered by child welfare agencies to make decisions and develop plans that protect and nurture children and prevent further abuse and neglect.
