Meet the Staff

Sandra J. McLaughlin, MSW – Executive Director/Adoption Specialist

"I’ve been working in all aspects of adoption around the globe for 25 years. My heart always flutters with excitement and tears of joy well up in my eyes when children are united with their forever families. I always knew my sister and I were the little girls adopted from Korea that my parents told in our bedtime story. On my first journey back to Korea, God made it clear to me that adoption would become my professional passion and work for the future. God blessed me with great parents who encouraged my sense of adventure to work and live across the sea. Today, I'm a little closer to home working as the executive director of Bethany’s Western PA office. I am thankful that God has blessed me with the privilege of helping children and families coming together through adoption."

Sandra McLaughlin, MSW is a graduate of Portland State University. She has 25 years of experience in international adoptions, domestic adoptions, older special needs adoptions, birthparent counseling and post adoption counseling. Sandra is a Holt-Korean adoptee, and native of Erie, PA.

“My work with Bethany continues my professional social work career of working with children and families. It has been my dream to work in the field of adoption, and it is a special blessing to work for an agency that is serving the Lord and working through Him to do His will and carry out the plan He has for the children. As a birthparent counselor, I am privileged to work with birthparents, mostly birthmoms, who want the very best for their babies and love them very much.”

Shawn Sliper earned her master’s degree in social work from Colorado State University. She recently came to Bethany following her studies and work in child welfare. Shawn is settling back into her hometown of Pittsburgh.

Virginia “Gyngr” McGee, BS, Domestic and International Adoption Specialist

"Three years ago, I stepped back into my work in adoptions after being a full-time mom. I have worked in many aspects of adoption, and find great enjoyment working with adoptive families. Whether you are adopting domestically or internationally, I know your decision is personal, and at times the adoption process may seem overwhelming to you. I want to partner with you in your adoption process as a counselor, advisor and just a listening ear to help you prepare for God’s blessing in your child. I love hearing from my adoptive families over the years, and am humbled by God’s goodness and plans when I see children and families come together through adoption.”

Virginia “Gyngr” McGee earned a B.S. in sociology. She is employed part-time with Bethany, and available to her families from home or through our Bethany office. Gyngr and her husband live in Gibsonia.
