Anthony Brandt, a well known historian and author has said, “Other things may change us, but we start and end with family.” At Bethany, our desire is to harness the inherent strengths already naturally built into the relationship adoptive parents have with their adoptive child. Because of this, as part of the ADOPTS program, each family goes through 16 consecutive weeks of individual and family counseling.

In these sessions, our trained staff will help an adoptive child navigate the waters of finding a healthy attachment with their adoptive parents. As part of this process, their adoptive child will grow in feelings identification, thought recognition, and coping skills that empower an adoptive child to enter into, once again, a nurturing relationship.

Parents will also find understanding as to how their adoptive child’s trauma is specifically connected to the behavior they might be seeing in the home. Then, they will be invited into the process of helping their adoptive child find healing.
