Bethany Can Help
You contacted Bethany Christian Services because you or someone you know is pregnant and considering adoption. We know that you are facing a very difficult decision and would like you to know about our services that are available at no charge. Experienced professionals are prepared to assist you with either an adoption or parenting plan and will not pressure you in your decision. A final decision can only be made by you after the birth of the child. If after birth, you are unsure or confused about your decision, we can provide care for your baby for up to one month while you decide.
Types of Adoption
After you have chosen an adoption facilitator, you need to ask yourselves, “What kind of relationship do we want to have with our child’s adoptive family?” The best way to answer that question is to learn as much as you can about the three options for adoption plans:
open,
semi-open, or
confidential (closed)
Adoption Process
Birthparents have the option of selecting an adoptive couple from written profiles. These are pictures and descriptions of the waiting families and birthparents can take them home. Then the birthparents can request to meet the adoptive families that they are interested in.
A hospital plan is designed by the birthmother. The amount of contact is up to the birthparents. The birthmother can take care of the baby, feed the baby, name the baby and decide who visits with the baby. The birthmother can also decide where the baby will go once discharged from the hospital. In Wisconsin, she has four options: she can take the baby home with her, have a relative take the baby, have a licensed foster home take care of the baby until the court date, or have the adoptive parents take the baby home. If she chooses the foster home, she can visit the home or take the baby out for visits. The birthmother can also give permission for the prospective adoptive parents to visit at the foster home.
Free counseling is provided throughout the adoption process with follow-up counseling afterwards, for as long as needed. There is also a Birthmother’s Day celebration on the Saturday before Mother’s Day to honor birthmothers. Bethany has luncheons and presentation to celebrate this day.
