Once a month, Bethany Christian Services of South Central Iowa hosts Bethany Playshop, a time for children who were adopted to interact with one another. The children have fun playing games, doing art projects, and learning about different parts of the world.

Who’s invited: All children adopted through Bethany are invited as well as their siblings and parents and even grandparents. Bethany families waiting to get a referral or placement or are waiting to travel to get their child are also invited.

How long does it last: one action-packed hour

What is the purpose: Children will be exposed to positive adult role models of the same race/culture as their birthparents. Children will be in a peer culture that normalizes adoption by being with lots of other children who were also adopted. Children and parents will join in the celebration of traditions and cultures around the world through art projects, games and other play activities. Children and parents will learn about the history of other countries as well as African American history. And it’s a lot of fun!
