Overview

At this time, the only program open for Taiwan is for adoptive families interested in waiting children.
These children often have moderate to severe special needs.

Welcome to the Taiwan adoption program. Intercountry adoption is an incredible journey, and we consider it a privilege to work with you. Our team is committed to providing you with the resources you will need so that your adoption will significantly and positively impact the life of a child through your family. We work with Cathwel Services in Taipei, Taiwan. Cathwel Services began as a Catholic Relief Service in Taiwan in 1949.

Bethany Christian Services is able to process dossiers for waiting children (with minor to severe special needs) from newborns to age 14. Sibling groups are available at times and may be requested by adoptive families. The adoptive parents may be able to select the child’s gender, but this may increase the time to receive a referral. At this time, the program is not accepting applications for newborns to children 18 months old who have no identified needs.

The birthfamily is often involved in the selection of the adoptive family for an infant. In most situations, the birthmother has received good prenatal care. The baby will generally receive excellent pediatric care after birth, including well-baby check-ups and immunizations. Some background information about the birthparents may also be provided. Once a birthmother has chosen a family for her baby, photos and updates are sent to the adoptive family, and the adoptive family may send photo albums and small gifts to help prepare the child for the adoption.

An adoptive family that has been selected and given a referral by the team in Taiwan, rather than by the birthmother, is also regularly given photos and updates. In such cases, the adoptive family may also send photos and gifts to help prepare the child. This is especially helpful when an older child is adopted.
