SUGGESTIONS FOR A HEALING SERVICE
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for this special time of remembering. We are thankful that we do not have to weep alone, for You are the One who weeps and rejoices with us.
We bring to You all that has been part of this adoption—the joyful anticipation, the shared joy with family and friends; and then the shattering news, the mourning, the memories, the letting go, and the reaching out.
Minister to the hearts of those whose lives have been shattered. Be especially with __________________ and ________________. We know that the child taken from them already had a special place in their heart. Now their hearts are broken and their spirits crushed.
Send them the healing presence of your Spirit, for You invite us to bring sorrows and burdens to You. Walk with this family, we pray, in the valley of darkness, and comfort them in Your love and peace.
Right now all of us have more questions than answers. The reason for it all seems hidden in the shadows. Help us to remember that as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are your ways higher than our ways and your thoughts than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9). Grant us faith to believe that in all things you work for the good of those who love you (Romans 8:28).
We pray for this little one and for the birthparent(s) who has chosen to provide a home. Grant Your guarding and protecting love. Provide a healthy and nurturing environment and the opportunity for this precious child to hear about the Savior.
Even though right now our vision is blurred with tears and sadness, we pray that in time the words of the psalmist will be true for us:
He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Psalm 40:1b-3a NIV
