BETHANY CHRISTIAN SERVICES of Northern California is part of a worldwide non-profit (501c3) ministry that began in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1944 and is currently serving in 75 locations and 15 foreign countries.
Bethany of Northern California was established as a licensed Foster Family/Adoption Agency in December 1981. We were licensed to provide International Adoptions in 1994. Our coverage area includes Kern County to the Oregon border, the Sierras to the Bay. We have a satellite office in Fresno, and outreach social workers serve in the northern part of the state and in the Bay Area.
We provide a range of social services to sustain pregnancies including counseling, infant foster care, referral services and when needed, a Housing Ministry/program through Bethany’s House, which is located next to our office. Approximately 40% of our clients choose adoption for their children in any given year.
Bethany provides crisis pregnancy counseling, but differs from pregnancy resource centers in that we are licensed to provide adoption services. We provide training to CPC’s and refer to them for pregnancy testing.
People hear of us through word of mouth, Yellow Pages, public presentations, pastors, doctors, teachers, and Crisis Pregnancy Centers. There is no charge for any of our services to women with an unplanned pregnancy. Our birth parent clients come from a variety of backgrounds and ages – as young as 11 years of age and some have been into their forties.
Our 27 Full & part time staff are Christians who worship in varied denominations. Our social work staff meets or exceeds state and professional requirements. Our office is governed by a Branch Board of Directors. Local committees provide support to the local offices.
Bethany is not affiliated with any other Bethany ministry, such as Bethany College or Bethany Home in Ripon.
We receive no government funding. We operate our ministry through adoption fees, private and church donations, and fund-raising events.
