If You Choose Adoption your Bethany counselor will help you understand the types of adoption plans available today and decide which type is best for you:
- Open Adoption - In open adoption, birthparents choose their child’s adoptive family. Bethany provides a large selection of carefully screened adoptive families for birthparents to consider. Birthparents and adoptive parents work out together the degree of openness they desire. This may range from exchanging letters and photos without identifying information to ongoing visits between the adoptive family and the birthparents.
- Privately Arranged Adoptions - In privately arranged adoptions (sometimes called designated adoptions), birthparents and adoptive parents find each other on their own and Bethany helps with counseling and legal arrangements.
- Confidential Adoption - In a confidential adoption, birthparents have no contact with the adoptive parents either before or after the adoption and their identities are not disclosed to each other.
At Bethany, you are in control of choosing the adoption plan you think will be best for you and your baby. If you are comfortable with it, we encourage the birthfather as well as other family members to be involved in the planning process. No matter which type of adoption you choose, Bethany will handle the legal matters involved in the adoption. Since 1944, women have trusted Bethany to help them face their unplanned pregnancies and make decisions they can live with. At Bethany you can expect straight talk about life-affirming choices from professional counselors who understand and care about you.
