Virginia - Programs
Birthparent Counseling
Birthparent counselors offer life-giving ways for birthparents to pursue their own personal goals and still provide a loving, stable home for their children through adoption. Bethany counsels birthparents, as well as members of the extended families, at no charge. For birthparents who choose to parent, Bethany offers information about assistance available through local community resources.
Domestic Infant Adoption
Bethany Christian Services is a licensed child-placing agency within the state of Virginia. Our office in Charlottesville is one of three Bethany satellite offices under the branch office in Fairfax. Bethany has an established domestic program primarily placing infants one year and younger. Bethany’s domestic adoption program approves committed Christian couples in Virginia to adopt infants from Virginia or other parts of the U.S. Furthermore, we provide complete parental placement and private services, as well as post placement support.
International Adoption
Bethany Christian Services in Charlottesville, in conjunction with our Branch office in Fairfax, Virginia and our headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan, offers international adoption services to Central and Southwest Virginia. We currently provide agency international adoption service to over a dozen countries. Families in and around Charlottesville, Virginia, who are interested in adopting internationally, can call our office to get more information. We also provide private services, as well as post adoption support.
Infant Interim Care
As a part of our services, Bethany provides foster care for infants during the first several weeks of their lives, during which time the birthparents are in the process of making an adoption plan for their child or the birthparents' rights are being terminated. Christian families who desire to serve the Lord by opening their hearts and homes to care for an infant child, provide Bethany's foster care. Foster parents are approved according to state foster care regulations.
Library
Bethany Christian Services has received a mini-grant from AdoptUSKids to help establish a library for post adoption support. The library is open during office hours. Books and materials may be checked out for up to two weeks.
QICA - Quality Improvement Center on Adoption
Bethany of Charlottesville has received a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through United Methodist Family Services of Richmond. This grant will fund the Charlottesville Quality Improvement Center on Adoption (QICA) with the hope to help reduce the number of children in the foster care system. This adoption project builds on the collaboration among public and private social services agencies, including Albemarle County Department of Social Services, the City of Charlottesville Department of Social Services, Greene County Department of Social Services, and Tri-Area Foster Families. The main objective of the Charlottesville QICA project is to increase the body of knowledge on how public-private partnerships contribute to best-practice adoption for waiting foster children.
Virginia State Grant - Achieving Permanency Through Adoption Program
Bethany Christian Services in Charlottesville has been working in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Social Services in Charlottesville City, Albemarle County and Greene County to place children in foster care into loving committed families. Families come to Bethany for the purpose of having a homestudy completed for the adoption of children with special placement needs (meaning older, racial minorities, sibling groups, with developmental or educational delays and/or emotional and behavioral challenges). Families also receive education, training, pre-placement support and post placement support under the grant. Because these services are provided under the state grant, the cost to the family is little or nothing.
