THE NEED IN RUSSIA
Children Growing Up in Orphanages
Rather than in Families: 260,000*
Approximately 26,000 children (10%) age out of orphan care each year. Without intervention for these children, only 10% will adapt to life within their communities, 40% will become dependent on crime, 40% will become dependent on drugs and alcohol, and 10% will commit suicide.**
Children Growing Up in Single Parent Families: 6,450,000 (21%)***
This population is lacking the presence of fathers. The children and women are vulnerable and the children are at risk of being neglected, abused, or abandoned.
