Ben and Kate - La Mirada, California

Dear Expectant Parent,

First of all, we want to thank you. We really admire you for the brave and loving choice you are making, during what must be a very difficult time for you. We know we can’t possibly understand all that you’re going through right now, but we do pray that God will guide you through the decision and comfort you with His love. Thank you so much for taking time to learn more about us. We are very excited about adoption and really looking forward to the possibility of meeting you!

About Ben (from Kate):
Ben is a very loving and kind husband, my best friend, patient counselor, and faithful leader. After almost 4 years of marriage, I still look forward with excitement to the time we’ll have together after work each day. We just love being together, whatever we’re doing, having fun in the great outdoors or working on projects, talking about anything and everything, praying & reading together. Our love is growing deeper and stronger each year, with every new trial or joy we face together. Ben is warm, gentle, and super easy to be with. Children love him and he loves children—all the kids we know light up and absolutely run to him when we see them, remembering how much fun they had last time. As a high-school bible teacher, he doesn’t just teach his students, he gets to know them personally. They actually want to hang out with him, even after they graduate. He has fun with them, listens to them, counsels and prays for them, just like he does with me. I can’t wait to see him as a dad!

About Kate (from Ben):
My precious wife will make a wonderful mom. I know this because she takes such great care of me by loving, providing, nurturing, serving, listening, counseling and praying. I greatly anticipate the day when Kate gets to sing to her baby her beautiful songs with her soothing voice. These songs fill our home in the evenings when she is busy in the kitchen, bringing joy to my heart. She longs to play games and sing and laugh with her niece and nephews. Her heart melts when we see their baby pictures, remembering the hours she would spend holding them or just looking into their innocent eyes. People love getting gifts from Katie because they know that a lot of thought went into them. Her creativity and thoughtfulness are poured into every poem, piece of art, picture, or even gag! I know that God has given her many gifts and can’t wait to see her use these gifts as a loving mom.

Why we want to adopt:
About a year ago, we found out that it would be very difficult for us to have biological children. This was painful news for us because we have both looked forward to having children all our lives. It only took us a little while, however, to become excited about adoption. Ben’s grandparents did foster-care and adopted his aunt Robin, who along with her husband Eddie, adopted one of their daughters from China. Good friends in our bible study have adopted three brothers who we love hanging out with. Really, we believe that children are an amazing gift that comes directly from God, whether through adoption or any other way. God has saved us so that we could be adopted into His family, and now we get a chance to reflect that story to others in a very real way.

Our families, hobbies, and home:
Our families live mostly in Ohio (where Ben’s from) or Texas (where Kate’s from). We enjoy visiting them once or twice a year (or having them out to California). These visits are when we catch up on everything, make fun meals together, play music together, go fishing or hiking or bike riding, and play games of all sorts. Everyone in our families is very supportive and excited about us adopting and we know they are looking forward to meeting and welcoming this new member of the family as much as we are!

We love being outdoors as much as we can. We enjoy hiking, cycling, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, skiing, and pretty much anything that allows us to have fun in a beautiful setting. We also love reading and sometimes go through a book or part of a book together. We also greatly enjoy hanging out with friends. We’re involved in a great bible study at our church that meets twice a month. On the off weeks, Ben meets with a group of men for accountability and fellowship while Kate meets with her friend Abi for the same.

We recently purchased a two-bedroom condo in a quiet and beautiful farming area outside of the city, which we are very excited about.
