Life Skills
Goal Independence for Teens (GIFT)

Youth who participate in the Life Skills program are past or present court wards who are supervised by the Kent County Family Independence Agency. They have been or currently are in approved out-of-home placements. The program is designed to help these youth, who range in age from 14-20, achieve independence so they can responsibly live on their own. There is no cost to eligible participants.

Referral Criteria
  • Recommendation from Kent County social service agencies
  • Supervised court wards who are between the ages of 14-20
Services
  • Assessments
  • Individualized treatment plans
  • Employment and education referrals
  • Life skills group instruction (Money management, meal planning, transportation, decision making, conflict resolution, health care, record keeping)
  • One-on-one mentoring
  • Monthly support groups
  • Apartment living practice
    How Can the Community Help?
    • Donations of household furnishings are appreciated
    • Volunteer to become a mentor
