Post-Adoption Services
Adoption is an event that marks the beginning of a lifelong journey. Each person involved can benefit from specialized support and education, known as Post-Adoption Services, at different times throughout life.
Birthparents
Birthparents may benefit from joining a peer group to build supportive friendships or from help in maintaining relationships with their child and his or her adoptive parents.
Adoptees
Adopted children may benefit from joining a peer group to build friendships with other adoptees or from therapy that addresses abuse or neglect experienced prior to adoption. As adults, adoptees often need support when seeking information about their biological family, their culture, or their country of birth.
Adoptive Parents
Adoptive parents often benefit from information about how children understand adoption at different ages, the impact of pre-adoptive trauma on child development, and where to go if specialized services are needed.
