Outreach and Referral

ROAR is designed to assist refugees in Kent, Ottawa, and Kalamazoo Counties to identify resources which will help with a multitude of concerns. There is no cost to those qualified to use ROAR.


Services
Bilingual staff can provide

  • Information regarding low-income services and programs, including finances, language, and housing.
  • Assistance in application for services and completion of forms.
  • Translation services.
  • Transportation to some appointments.
  • Referrals to community resources.
  • Presentations to the refugee community, schools, ESL programs, churches, and places of employment.

Who Qualifies for Services?
  • Refugees - men, women, teens, and children.
  • Asylees.
  • Former refugees or asylees admitted for permanent resident status.
  • Conditional entrants.
  • Amerasian immigrants.

How Can the Community Help?
  • Request presentations by ROAR staff to increase awareness of refugee adjustment issues.
  • Volunteer to mentor and befriend a refugee.
  • Former refugees are especially encouraged to volunteer to assist newly arrived refugees.
  • Financial gifts allocated to rent and utility payments.
  • Clothing.
  • Contributions of household items.
