Refugee - Outreach and Referral
ROAR is designed to assist refugees in Kent, Ottawa, and Kalamazoo Counties to identify resources which will help with a multitude of concerns. There is no cost to those qualified to use ROAR.
Services
Bilingual staff can provide
- Information regarding low-income services and programs, including finances, language, and housing.
- Assistance in application for services and completion of forms.
- Translation services.
- Transportation to some appointments.
- Referrals to community resources.
- Presentations to the refugee community, schools, ESL programs, churches, and places of employment.
Who Qualifies for Services?
- Refugees - men, women, teens, and children.
- Asylees.
- Former refugees or asylees admitted for permanent resident status.
- Conditional entrants.
- Amerasian immigrants.
How Can the Community Help?
- Request presentations by ROAR staff to increase awareness of refugee adjustment issues.
- Volunteer to mentor and befriend a refugee.
- Former refugees are especially encouraged to volunteer to assist newly arrived refugees.
- Financial gifts allocated to rent and utility payments.
- Clothing.
- Contributions of household items.
