Domestic Infant Adoption

Domestic Infant Adoption
For over 60 years, Bethany has placed infants, children of all ages, and children with special physical or emotional needs into Christian adoptive homes. Our team of caring, experienced professionals understands and works with every aspect of adoption including pre-placement, placement, and post-placement issues.

We offer different types of adoptions including open adoption, semi-open adoption and confidential adoption.

How can we apply to adopt a domestic infant through Bethany?
You may contact our Western South Dakota, Eastern South Dakota, or Gillette Wyoming office and request an inquiry packet which we will mail out to you. If you desire to apply we would ask you to fill out the preliminary application and return it to our office. After receiving your preliminary application one of our social workers will contact you for an initial consultation.

How will Bethany assist us in adopting a child?
You will participate in an interview process known as the adoptive family home study. The home study involves both joint and individual interviews and a home visit. Certain paperwork and the home study are required by state law and are helpful in preparing your family profile. Your family profile includes photos and information about you.

How will Bethany prepare us for adoptive parenthood?
Bethany offers pre-placement counseling and training workshops to prepare families for parenthood and adoption. We also have resources to direct you for help with parenting through adoption available in book, video and conference format.

Usually, birthparents select the adoptive family for their child. We cannot guarantee placement of a child. However, many of the families who apply through Bethany adopt not only one, but often two or more children.

South Dakota Requirements for adoption of Domestic Infants:

1.Applicants must be married at least two years.
2. There must be an infertility problem, even in an unknown diagnosis.
3. Applicants must be residents of a state in which Bethany is licensed or permitted to place children. The South Dakota Bethany offices are licensed to place children in South Dakota.
