Haiti

Travel

Families must make two trips to Haiti to complete their adoption. Your first trip will include appearing in front of a judge and also filing your I-600. This trip occurs shortly after receiving your referral. Your second trip is at the end of your adoption when you are able to pick up your child after their visa has been approved. We feel that it is very important for both parents to travel. It will help you to gain a greater understanding of your child’s birthcountry and culture, which will serve to help your child understand and value his/her origins. It also serves the children better for attachment and bonding purposes. Expect to be in country 3 to 4 days for your first trip, and 3 to 5 days on your final trip.

While in Haiti, you will stay at the orphanage in the orphanage’s guesthouse/parent wing. The orphanage will pick you up from and drop you off at the airport, as well as provide any other necessary transportation while in Haiti.
Adoption travel is not a vacation. Travel within Haiti may not be easy or relaxing. It may be exhausting as you deal with language and cultural barriers along with caring for a new child who may not adjust very easily.
