Considering Adoption?
You choose the level of openness that is right for you!

Many expectant parents who are considering adoption have questions about what kind of relationship they would have with an adoptive family. Bethany offers openness options ranging from “Open” to “Confidential.”

Open Adoption. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Semi-Open Adoption. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Confidential Adoption

Each of these openness options has certain common elements, but you can mix and match elements to create the openness plan that fits you best. Each openness plan is unique.

This is just a sample of some of the common elements of each of the openness plans:
    Open Adoption
    • You meet the potential adoptive parents before the child is born.
    • You have ongoing, direct contact with the family and the child, perhaps visiting the home and gathering for special occasions.
    Semi-Open Adoption
    • You choose a family from written, non-identifying profiles.
    • All meetings with the adoptive family are arranged and supervised by a Bethany staff member.
    • You can send and receive letters, pictures, and gifts to and from the adoptive family by sending them through Bethany. Your contact information is kept confidential.
    Confidential Adoption
    • Bethany chooses your child’s adoptive family.
    • There is no contact between the adoptive family and birthfamily, such as sharing of photos, letters, or visits.
    • Expectant parents may ask Bethany to choose their child’s adoptive family.

Post-Adoption Care
Regardless of what kind of adoption you choose, it is normal and healthy for birthparents to experience feelings of grief and loss. Your Bethany pregnancy counselor will be available to meet with you during this time to offer you support as you process these emotions and work through your grief in a healthy way.
