Cindy's Story
Cindy's Story
When Cindy found out she was pregnant, she was elated. She was now in a place in her life where she could successfully parent and provide for her very own child. This was not the case several years ago when she walked through the doors of Bethany Christian Services. Cindy had been a teen-age runaway, living on the streets of Denver for many months, surviving the best she could. She was escaping a home environment that was full of domestic violence and physical abuse. While searching for someone to love her, to fill the empty void in her heart, she became pregnant.
Cindy had not been to church since she was four years old when a neighbor would take her to Sunday school, but she felt a longing to go. She found a church downtown on a Sunday morning and she sat in the back row. During the service, a Social Worker spoke about the incredible blessings that birth mothers provide to infertile couples who desire to have children but cannot. This Social Worker was from Bethany Christian Services. After the service, Cindy went up to the Social Worker and told her of her story. After talking for almost an hour, Cindy made an appointment for the next day to meet with her to begin the counseling process to see if adoption was the path for her and her unborn child. After several sessions, Cindy chose a family for her baby. Although Cindy still grieves for her child at times, she knows that she made the right decision. Cindy is still connected to Bethany today and has helped staff train new adoptive families on the importance of open adoptions.
