character

Character Biography – Have students write a biography article about a person with good character that they know. If possible, they can interview the person about crucial decisions they have made in their lives and how they have been able to achieve their goals and help others in their life. Give some time during class for students to read aloud their character biographies. The following questions can offer an out line for their interview and reports:

  • What is the most difficult challenge you have faced?
  • Tell me about an opportunity you have had to help others.
  • What is a goal or dream you have accomplished and how did you achieve it?

Reflections - If you were to write down a few sentences for what qualities you would like to be remembered at the end of your life, what would they be? In a sentence, write down a description of what you would want to be said about your character when you are 75. What was the main purpose of your life?

Character Charades - Have one student volunteer to leave the room. Ask the others to choose a negative character quality (say, dishonesty). When the student volunteer returns, he or she will ask someone to act out the word they chose. (For instance, the actor might pretend to be cheating by looking at another student’s test paper.) The volunteer keeps asking for demonstrations until he or she guesses the word. Then someone else leaves the room, and so on.
