Interim Care
Bethany provides interim care for newborns while their birthparents make their final decision concerning adoption or parenting. Providing this care is an incredible way in which a family can take an active part in supporting parents who have chosen life for their child. In addition to providing lots of love and attention, interim care providers are involved in transporting the infants for visits, taking pictures, following up with medical care and keeping a record of their progress while in care.
Interim care providers love and nurture a baby as their own, while realizing their care-taking is temporary. The average stay of a baby is 7 days. Such an important task requires much love, flexibility and willingness to work with birthfamilies as well as adoptive families during this transition time in an infant's life.
Bethany actively recruits families to provide care for infants and welcomes the opportunity to speak to families about their interest in this program. If you are interested in being a part of Bethany’s ministry and want to receive your license to provide interim care services for a Bethany baby, please contact one of our three Bethany offices for more details:

Foster care for children in custody of Departments of Social Services
Since 1994, Bethany of Asheville, N. C. has been providing foster care services to neglected and abused children ranging in age from infants to 18. This service is provided through contracts with local Departments of Social Services. Bethany finds nurturing and loving homes for children who are not able to live with their biological parents, while their parents work with Department of Social Services social workers on a treatment plan to make their lives more stable, secure and safe for their children. Bethany provides licensing, supervision, and support services to their foster parents as they work with Departments of Social Services in their goal of providing a permanent home for the children in their custody.
Foster care for children in need of Motivational Respite
Another type of foster care service provided is respite care which operates from referrals through the mental health system. The majority of children in this program reside with family who are in need of a few days away from the child due to the severe acting out behaviors they are exhibiting. The children in this program usually have at least one mental health diagnosis.
