Board of Directors
The ministry of Bethany Christian Services in Indiana is overseen by our dedicated board of directors. Following are those individuals currently serving as board members. We appreciate the gift of their time, resources and leadership as we strive to enhance the lives of children and families throughout Indiana.
Lori Hockema, President
Lori and her husband, Jeff, have lived in the Zionsville area for many years. They are blessed with four children; Benjamin, 18, Erin, 14, John, 7, and Grace, 6. John and Grace were adopted from China through Bethany Christian Services. Lori received her undergraduate degree from Purdue University and her master's degree in education from Indiana University. She taught for more than sixteen years at the elementary level. During her tenure Lori was a reading specialist, elementary grade teacher, and a coach for volleyball, basketball, and track. Presently, Lori is an active member Zionsville Education Foundation board, a volunteer in many church and school groups, and a full time mother.
Dan Boehning, Vice President
Dan and his wife Sheila have been married for 18 years and are parents of four children – Cameron, 15; Brianna, 12; Graysen, 9; and Kaelynn, 6. Kaelynn was adopted from South Korea with the assistance of Bethany Christian Services. Dan is a regional account executive for eTapestry, a software company whose online fundraising/member management software helps non profit organizations and churches better manage their contacts/members and donors. Prior to joining eTapestry, Dan served on two different church staffs and his family spent time in Budapest, Hungary where Dan was involved in leadership training and theological education. Dan is an active member of Brookville Road Community Church. He enjoys reading novels, rooting on the World Champion Indianapolis Colts and spending time with his family. Dan and his family live in New Palestine.
Tracy Dull, Treasurer
Tracy is a stay-at-home mom to three beautiful children, Joshua, Sophee and Cho. All three children were adopted from South Korea through Bethany Christian Services. Tracy and her husband, Bill, have been married for 16 years and live in Zionsville, Indiana. Tracy received a management degree from Purdue University and a master’s degree in accountancy from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Tracy is a Certified Public Accountant however, is not currently practicing. Most importantly, Tracy is a Christian and a member of Zionsville Presbyterian Church. Tracy spends most of her time volunteering at church and at her children's school.
Jody Hook, Secretary
Jody is currently a “stay-at-home” mother to sons, Jacob and Luke, and daughters, Katy and Anna Grace. Jody and her husband, Matthew, completed their family with the international adoptions of Katy and Anna Grace from China through Bethany Christian Services in 2001 and 2004. Jody earned a Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis in 1988, and worked for two years as a judicial clerk for the Indiana Tax Court and seven years as a nonpartisan attorney for the Indiana Legislative Services Agency. After the tragic death of an infant daughter in 1996 and the stillbirth of a son in 1997, Jody resigned from her legal position and embarked on the journey of building new hope for herself and her family. Jody and her family currently reside in Carmel, where Jody is a volunteer at her children’s schools and preschool. She is a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and is active with their children’s education ministry. Jody has also served as a volunteer and board member for the Indiana SIDS Center.
Claude Burgess, Board Member
Claude and his wife Jane were married in September 1991 and have two children, Kristin and Thomas. Jane and Thomas were both adopted from South Korea as infants. Claude received his Chemical Engineering degree from North Carolina State University and his Masters in Business Management from the Krannert Business School at Purdue. The Burgess family moved to Zionsville, IN in 2002 from Raleigh, NC and are active members of Zionsville Presbyterian Church. Claude works for Eli Lilly and Company as a project manager, teaches Sunday school at ZPC and coaches soccer at ZYSA. Prison ministry, Kairos, and housing ministries Habitat For Humanity and The Fuller Center For Housing are other organizations that the Burgess family actively support.
Dave Hickman, Board Member
Dave and his wife Jeri are the blessed parents of Shane and Jasmine. Both children were adopted from South Korea with the help of Bethany Christian Services. After receiving a Finance degree from Indiana University, Dave immediately began an entrepreneurial career building and growing small businesses. For the past two years, his role as Vice President of Global Operations for a Netherlands based Recruitment and Wind Energy Services company, keeps him busy in the US and Europe. Dave is an active mentor for Starfish in Indianapolis and attends Common Ground Christian Church. The Hickman family currently resides in Carmel and enjoys bike riding, soccer, fishing, and traveling together.
Beth La Rosa, Board Member
Beth and her husband, who are both family practice physicians, adopted their three sons from China through Bethany’s waiting child program. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and earned her M.D. from Indiana University Medical School. Members of College Park Church in Indianapolis, the La Rosa family is actively involved in the church children’s and East Asia ministries. Beth helped start the Martindale-Brightwood Health Center, which assists the underserved in Indianapolis. She is currently engaged in ministry to Chinese residents of Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Beth first became acquainted with Bethany in Jackson, Mississippi, where she worked for Voice of Calvary, an inner city medical clinic that fostered a close relationship with Bethany.
Debora Terry, Board Member
Debora is currently a stay-home mother to daughter Lauryn and has been married to her husband Larry for 22 years. They adopted their daughter though Bethany in 1999. Debora attended Taylor University and The University of Indianapolis and has worked in the Banking and Finances industry for over 18 years. She currently volunteers at her daughter’s school and is a member of Greater Northwest Baptist Church, where she serves as a member of the choir, finance committee and the Christian Education Ministry. Debora is also a member of the Gospel group Essence of Praise.
