Sabrina's Story
Sabrina's Story
Often times we do not get to see the fruits of our labor but we continue to do what we do because we know we are called by God. Here is a letter we received from an 18 year old girl who was adopted through a private domestic adoption at birth, her name has been changed to protect confidentiality.
Dear Bethany Staff,
I am not sure who my birth mother’s counselor was when I was born, so I am writing this to all of you at Bethany. I am an adoptee of Bethany and I am now 18 years old. My mother became pregnant with me when she was 13 years old. She came from an abusive home environment and could not turn to her parents (my biological grandparents) for support for fear she would suffer their wrath. Wearing baggy clothing and hiding her growing appetite, my mother got through her pregnancy without anyone knowing until the morning she admitted herself to the hospital. Eighteen years ago, to this day, my mother did not know where to turn for help. After being admitted to the hospital, a wonderful old nurse asked my mother where her parents were and how was she going to raise this baby. My mother answered her with tears streaming down her face that she did not know. This nurse asked my mother if she had thought about adoption and began to talk to her about Bethany Christian Services. My mother decided this was the best option for her and the nurse called both her parents and a birthparent counselor at Bethany. My mother was able to choose the family she wanted me to belong to and boy did she do a great job. My adoptive parents are the most wonderful people in the world and once I got to be thirteen they even helped me contact my birthmother. I was able to get to know my birthmother a little bit but it did not affect my feelings towards my (adoptive) parents. I love them with all my heart and as far as I am concerned they are my parents.
I just wanted to take the time to write you all and tell you THANK YOU SO MUCH for the work you do and the impact you had on my life!
In God’s Love,
Sabrina
