Hong Kong
Age of Parents:
Each adoptive applicant must be a minimum of 25 years of age at the time his or her dossier is submitted to Hong Kong. In general, applicants must also be under age 50, but the upper age limit may be flexible.
Length of Marriage:
The minimum length of marriage at application is three years. If either of the applicants has a previous divorce(s), then a social worker will need to provide a recommendation.
Children in Family:
This requirement is flexible in the Hong Kong program; however, each family will have to prove they have sufficient resources to care for an additional child.
Single Applicant:
Single applicants are accepted in the Hong Kong program.
Income:
Hong Kong requires a minimum household income of $30,000. It is also necessary that applicants meet U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) poverty guidelines.
Travel Requirements:
Travel is highly encouraged for all families in this program by Bethany and the agencies in Hong Kong because all of the children have special placement needs. Children may be escorted to the United States at the family's expense, but the majority of families travel to bring their children home.
