Johnny Carr, from Bethany’s National Office, and Loreta Quarcoo, from the Chattanooga branch of Bethany, were interviewed on Power 94 FM in Chattanooga, TN, on Monday April 6, 2009. Coach Jennings hosts a popular weekly radio program called “Pep Talk” during prime time on one of the most popular R&B stations in South East Tennessee. Coach is best known for being a mentor and coach to former NFL star Reggie White.
Coach Jennings asked Pastor Carr to share how he became involved in the global ministry of Bethany Christian Services. Pastor Carr shared his family’s testimony of how God changed the direction of their lives after the adoption of their first son. He also spoke about the global impact and breadth of Bethany’s services throughout the world. Of special interest, Pastor Carr shared how Bethany is creating resources for churches that want to have Orphan Care and Adoption ministries.
The focus of their conversation soon turned to Safe Families coordinator Loreta and her work. Bethany’s Chattanooga office is the first to introduce Safe Families for Children in the state of Tennessee. Safe Families for Children was begun in Chicago several years ago. This program gives respite to families who need help with their children to prevent them from entering the foster care system. Loreta will be recruiting volunteer families who are willing to open their homes to children for a specified period of time. Placing their children with Safe Families will allow parents the time they need to focus on their situations without caring for their children at the same time.
The Safe Families program has been successful in several areas of the country and is now being introduced in many other states. Bethany Christian Services is proud to partner with Dr. David Anderson and Lydia Home of Chicago in this program.
