A federal law that requires the recruitment of families reflecting the racial and ethnic backgrounds of children in foster care or in need of adoption is finally getting some attention thanks to a federally funded ad campaign that was just unveiled.
In the past year and a half Bethany has increased recruitment of families for children in foster care. Thus far in 2009, Bethany has had a 12% increase in adoptions of children in foster care over last year.
We applaud the efforts of the Advertising Council for their recent campaigns that bring awareness of children waiting for their forever families.

Bethany Christian Services is saddened to announce the passing of Mary Vanden Bosch, one of Bethany's founders.

“Bethany would not be a global ministry today without the vision and calling of two strong Christian women to serve vulnerable children,” said Bill Blacquiere, CEO of Bethany Christian Services. “As a co-founder, Mary played a vital role in starting a ministry that continues to grow.”

“This is a sad time in the history of the agency,” added Blacquiere. “Our prayers are with the Vanden Bosch family.”

As a founding member of the Christian Alliance for Orphans, Bethany Christian Services is standing behind their call to the Church to respond to the worldwide orphan crisis. The purpose of this organization is to engage the Christian community to respond to the needs of orphans.

“God created this magnificent world. It produces enough food to feed every person. It has enough clean water for every person. There are an estimated 420 million evangelical Christians in this world. Yet, there are 963 million starving people, and 1.2 billion people who do not have clean water. There are 15 million two-parent orphans in the world. The church, to fulfill its Biblical mandate to care for orphans and those in need, needs an Orphan Sunday to highlight the challenges before us.” (Bill Blacquiere, President of Bethany Christian Services)

Dennis Rainey's contribution to the Christian Alliance for Orphan's blog, titled Vast Need: Unified Response, gives a unique view on the number of orphans in the world and describes the need of churches to work together to solve this problem. Visit  the Christian Alliance Blog to read his article.
