Bethany Christian Services asks for your prayers for all of the people in Haiti, as they try to recover from the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck near Port-Au-Prince yesterday.

We are thankful to God that all of the children and staff at our partner, God's Littlest Angels orphanage, were not harmed.

Here is a direct link to the God's Littlest Angels website. Dixie, the director, also posted an update on her blog
early this morning, describing the earthquake's effects at the orphanage. Per her blog, "...The building stayed standing and John cannot find any cracks in the walls which is pretty amazing!... The nannies came in at 10 PM but we had two strong after shocks about midnight and the nannies and babies are sleeping outside on the ground on blankets!"

We have also received reports that the children and staff at our other partner, Creche Enfants Jesus, are all safe. Here is a link to the latest information from that orphanage.

For more updates on the situation in Haiti, please view this link from the Today Show on NBC.

If you would like to financially help the children in Haiti, Bethany Christian Services has set up a fund for earthquake recovery in Haiti. We will work with our partners on the ground in Haiti to utilize these donations to help make sure children in Haiti are safe.
Please go to www.bethany.org/donate and select Haiti-Earthquake Recovery as your gift designation.

Gravatar Image1 - Just throwing out this idea - do you think that Haiti would let the USA fly children out of Haiti and place them with American Families (like ours who have adopted and home studies done) even temporarily until they could safely be returned home to Haiti? Kind of like what they did with Katrina? I'm just thinking that the less people around just trying to survive there would make it easier to get supplies to them and leave the adults to start the recovery process. We would take 2-3 children and I know of at least ten other families that would take children. Thank you! God Bless You!

Gravatar Image2 - I agree with Carla McMillion's request. Is there some way that we can take in some of the children here in the States. We have so much to give and feel the need to do something rather than just sitting and crying at the TV. It seems like Haiti has so much to do right now and it would be great if we can give these children a safe and loving home until they can get settled. I'd gladly have a background/home check if necessary. Thanks you so much!

Gravatar Image3 - Me too! Ii would gladly take in one or two children temporarily or permanently. I can see how the dept. of state might have trouble with this request, though, so I also wonder if adoptions from Haiti might be expedited through your agency? I am willing to go through the proper channels.... :)

Gravatar Image4 - We would also gladly have the study done to take in children, even if only a on a temporary basis.

Gravatar Image5 - Likewise! My husband and I adopted our son through Bethany (domestic). We would open our home to 1 or 2 children as well.

Gravatar Image6 - We also had a home study completed in August 2009 and are interested in taking in 1 or 2 children permanently or temporarily if possible.

Gravatar Image7 - adoptive mom of 2 HIV+ boys domestically, and would not hesitate to adopt another HIV+ child from Haiti.
Someone should investigate this option :)

Gravatar Image8 - You can add our names to the list. If someone gets any information on this please post it.

Gravatar Image9 - The same thing has been heavy on me and my husband's hearts. We would live to adopt or even do a foster parenting situation until order is restored. If anything like this is possible please let us know.

Gravatar Image10 - Is there a way to foster some of these children? My husband and I would gladly open our home. Who can we contact about that?

Gravatar Image11 - we would love to adopt a child from overseas.i would love to help the children and we have adopted 2 children previously and fostered many others.

please respond back!

Gravatar Image12 - So many of us have resources and much to offer. It would take executive action at the highest levels to open doors and facilitate the movement of children while there is time. It would be unprecedented and messy, but can this country be idle with such need at our doorstep? We need to lobby for the opportunity to invest in these children.

Gravatar Image13 - My husband and I have been considering adoption for a long time now and recently began pursuing it in earnest. We would love to adopt one or even two children from Haiti but couldn't possibly afford the costs of international adoption. Is there help for situations like ours?

Gravatar Image14 - Us too! We would gladly go through whatever is needed to keep temporarily or permanently some children from Haiti...and we know other families that would do the same. What can we do?

Gravatar Image15 - I know this may be premature, but are there any plans to change some of the adoption criteria in Haiti? My husband and I are not 35 and we do not have fertility issues. We have a 2 year old son. However, we feel that God has called us to adopt.

Gravatar Image16 - Please let us know if something could possibly be done or is being worked on to try and relocate (even if temporary) the orphans to the USA during this recovery process in Haiti? My husband and I would open our home also. Please let us all know!!

Gravatar Image17 - It's a great suggestion and I would love to help in that way. Adoption is such a long process anyway and these children can not wait!!! Would the government consider this and what would we, as US citizens and potential foster/adoptive parents have to do? It's so hard just to watch tv and see all the suffering. I look at my home with a stocked pantry and clean running water and love to give. We could do so much if given the chance.

Gravatar Image18 - This has been our thought for several days now. We are homestudy and paperwork ready to adopt a child.
There must be a way to evacuate the orphans and get them into the hands of those who are able and willing to adopt temporarily or permanently. Please help those of us who could advocate for the Haitian orphans by letting us know who to contact. I will help in any way possible. Thank you.

Gravatar Image19 - Our family would love to help by taking in children and/or a family group from Haiti!! We would have the study done immediately if we knew it would help!! Why should they suffer when we have food, shelter, medical care and a strong desire to reach out and help our neighbor!

Gravatar Image20 - My husband & I were wondering the same thing as the other comments. We have been through an international adoption just under 2 years ago & have a homestudy that can easily be renewed. We could take in a child (any age or gender)for a temporary or permanent situation. The Hatian govt & the US govt must see that this would be a great help if there are people able to do this.

Please email us with any info or contacts.

Thanks,
The Davis Family

Gravatar Image21 - I would like to help in getting the children out of Haiti. I have no money, but I can help Bethany if you need me. I live in Pensacola, FL and can get my church members to take some of the kids in. Let me know...please send me an email.

Gravatar Image22 - I also would be very interested in helping out and giving a child a safe and friendly home. Even if this is on a temporary basis, I too would be happy to help out.

Gravatar Image23 - I agree! We already have a foster license thru Bethany, couldn't we help with those little ones? Also my adult son and wife wanted to adopt a child from Haiti and now feel that with all the devesation there they might not be able too.

Gravatar Image24 - I also would love to help these children. On a temporary or permanent basis. Whatever is necessary to help them.I am so saddened and afraid for them.It is such a horrible thing for any one to have to handle but these poor children...We are also willing to go thru proper channels.

Gravatar Image25 - We would as well..please let us know how to help.
Megan

Gravatar Image26 - We would also love to take in a child or two, either temporary or hopefully, permanently. I understand the typical adoption process takes 24 months. It seems these kids are lucky to have 24 days to survive with the conditions currently in Haiti. We can certainly foster the kids in our country until they can either be reunited with their family, or the proper process be done for permanent family placement. My husband and I would welcome with open arms a child into our home and heart!

Gravatar Image27 - My husband and I would love to have a study done and help care for Hatian children.

Gravatar Image28 - We agree with the suggestion that the US should make exceptions for these children and let them temporarily or permanently enter the States and be taken care of by loving families. We would also gladly have a home study done and share our home with 2 children. Let us know if we can help. Thank you!

Gravatar Image29 - Our hearts go out to the poor families and children who have lost loved ones and who are hurt due to the earthquake. If help is needed in terms of foster care or an adoptive home for the children my family too would be more then willing to help. It tears our hearts apart to see all that is going on over there and not being able to do a thing from where we sit. Our prayers are with them, for that is one thing we can do, and the most important.

Gravatar Image30 - Us too -- we could provide a permanent home to any one of the children from the orphanage. Adoption has long been a part of the desire of our hearts -- and a time such as this we find ourselves ready to open our home and hearts to a child in need. My husband and I both have careers in the field of human services and invite a speedy home inspection and interview to adopt a child in need, or even to provide a temporary shelter. Thank you in advance for your efforts on behalf of the innocent children in Haiti, Lisa and Patrick Quercioli.

Gravatar Image31 - My husband and I would also love to adopt or foster children, especially young children or babies involved in the earthquake. We have started paperwork with our county and tried to adopt from Guatemala before the program was suspended. Please contact us if there is something that we can do.

Gravatar Image32 - We are blessed to have three children by IVF but have always wanted to adopt more, but have been praying about it. God has placed the children in Haiti for a long time in my heart. If there is a need, my family would be happy to take children in permanently or temporarily. I feel very strongly with this tragedy that this is something I need to follow up on, but wasn't sure where to go. If you do hear of something, please let us know. We would go through whatever official channels were needed, and would be able to finicially support whatever it took a child or children to get to us. God Bless

Gravatar Image33 - I'm just hoping that the American government sees and thinks about what could happen to those little children if they don't bring them here to a safe place, until everytihng settles down. I myself would be happy to take one or two children, either temporary or permanent. God bless

Gravatar Image34 - We also agree. We would like to help in any way that we can, and are happy to go through a home study or any other necessary steps.

Gravatar Image35 - I am just so upset by the devastation and cry every time I read Dixie's blog. We need to do SOMETHING immediately to help these children--remove them from that situation. My family is ready to have the home study done and fill out the proper paperwork to take in one or two children for adoption.

Gravatar Image36 - My husband and I would love to know how we can help some of these children. My heart was touched by the news and I immediately thought of adopting some children. When I told my husband my thoughts, he agreed as well. He has contacted CNN and I am looking into agencies that are in our area. We completed foster care training a few years ago and wonder if it was to open the way for a time as this. We would gladly go through any training and home visits that are necessary. We want to help! Please let us know of any options we may have.

Gravatar Image37 - I am sure even licensed foster parents would open up their homes for these children I am a foster parent and certainly would

Gravatar Image38 - We would love to take in children and give them a home temporarily or permanently. Let me know how we can help.

Gravatar Image39 - We too would be happy to assist with fostering or permanent adoption. It seems as though there should be some assistance with the dept. of state from both countries under the extreme circumstances?

Gravatar Image40 - we adopted a little girl through Bethany 5 years ago. Today I have read 2 articles about the possibillity of bringing Haitian orphans to the US temporarily or permanently. Will Bethany be involved? We would like to help take care of a child or children. Do you have any information?

Gravatar Image41 - There is a Christian man who is working on getting humanitarian parole for orphans so he can get as many orphans as he can out and to the US. I would keep tabs on his blog if you truly want to take a child in once he gets them back. He said it might only be for a short while or it could be for a few months or forever. Whatever the plan, I'm on board.

Read his plan here:

Gravatar Image42 - We would also like some information. My husband and I are interested in oversees adoption, but Haiti's adoption process seems very strict. We are wondering if that will change! They need to get these children out and in a safe environment, before disease or starvation claims lives.

Gravatar Image43 - My wife I and our two children are all willing to help with some children as well! We would be willing to do what it took in order to help right now.

God bless!

Gravatar Image44 - We should DEFINITELY figure out who we need to go through to make this happen. We have three children (two are adopted) and we would love to help out as well. I even thought of opening a center and having it staffed by volunteers and in the meantime, looking for adoptive families for those who are available for adoption. But, at the very least, we should be able to get some of the children into safe and loving homes until they can be returned home to Haiti or into adoptive homes....so many willing to do that. I hope it can happen.

Gravatar Image45 - We would also gladly have the study done to take in children!

Gravatar Image46 - I also would be very intersted in caring for 1-2 children due to the massive disaster in haiti. I know of probably 15-20 families that would also being over joyed to care for little ones. I would be more than willing to do whatever background checks & homestudy, etc. that needed to be done. Please let me know! Thanks.

Gravatar Image47 - Not seeing a response to giving children a home, just you asking for money. I think the better option would be letting these children fly to a better place. I would be glad to buy a plane ticket instead. Even 2 or three to get them to a save place.

Gravatar Image48 - We would also be willing and able to take in 1-2 children temporary or permanent to help out. We are willing to go through a homevisit, etc. We are retired military living in a stable home in Wisconsin. We have 1 child at home( the other 2 are in college or graduating)
Praying for God's will...
thank you

Gravatar Image49 - I will surely adopt a baby. Can you please give info on this? Thanks.

Gravatar Image50 - I would love to adopt a child from haidi, how does someone do that

Gravatar Image51 - Hello,

I have started the process home study because my husband and i wanted to adopt a baby from my country (Brazil).

We now would like to expedite the process, and help a child to have a home as soon as possible, by adopting a child from Haidi. We would love to help with anything we can, we have a lovely home, and ready to give a lot of love to a child. Please let us know what we have to do to acomplish it as soon as possible.
My phone is 772 342-7210 God bless you, and protect all the families in Haidi.

Gravatar Image52 - I agree with the other comments. These children are in a life or death situation. I pray that people in the highest levels of our government are aware of the situation and are considering evacuating the children to permanent or temporary homes. We need to pray not only for the children but for those people who can make this happen, quickly. It can be done.

Gravatar Image53 - I agree with the other comments. These children are in a life or death situation. I pray that people in the highest levels of our government are aware of the situation and are considering evacuating the children to permanent or temporary homes. We need to pray not only for the children but for those people who can make this happen, quickly. It can be done.

Gravatar Image54 - I visited the internet in search of reliable outlets to assist the orphaned Haitian children. We too would be willing to assist these orphaned children with a safe and loving home during this terrible time and if God wills it- permenately. We have never adopted. I agree with the previous comment that we should do something more than just sit and cry. (always praying)

Gravatar Image55 - My husband and I have also discussed what options are available to aide the children of Haiti. Is there a way that we can open our Christian home to a child/ren orphaned by the earthquake?

Gravatar Image56 - Please count me in. I would love to help with the new orphan children. specially those that are under 7. I have never adopted a child, but would be willing to go the extra mile to do so. I am sure my husband would back me up 100%. Please let me know.
Mrs. Ricano

Gravatar Image57 - We were already praying about adopting before the earthquake and would love to bring 1 or 2 children from Haiti into our family. We would like to start the process as soon as possible.

Gravatar Image58 - I read on the GLA blog that they are looking for parents with a completed dossier. I'm not sure what their goals are but you might check out the request: { Link }

Gravatar Image59 - I have been thinking about that exact same thing! My husband and I are waiting to be matched with a birthmom through the Waukesha, WI office - we have been approved for domestic adoption. I am wondering though given the situation if there will be NECESSARY exceptions made for those poor children who so desperately need a safe and loving home during this tragic time. We are even open to long term adoption, but my husband is 50 years old (I am 35 and unable to have children), so that initially limited our international adoption possibilites. I pray that government loop holes don't limit the very bright possibilites for these beautiful children! At a time like this costs should be cut and safe and secure exceptions need to be made! God's Blessings be with them all!

Gravatar Image60 - We agree as well. My wife and I would welcome any children up to 6 kids for temporary placement or preferably permanent. As Christians we are called to help others in need and this is a huge need. So many children without homes or parents. USA and Haiti government should allow this given proof the destination homes are safe for the kids.
God bless,David Morrisette: Virginia

Gravatar Image61 - Please count me in. I also want to adopt one or two children or have them stay with me long or short term. I want to help get the orphans out!

Gravatar Image62 - My husband and I have been waiting untill we are old enough to adopt from Haiti. We have been married for 10 years and have 2 children ages 8 and 2 and we aren't old enough to start the process to adopt from Haiti.. If something is done to allow these children to temporarily or permanetly come to the US and find a forever home we would be willing to do what ever it takes to make this happen! We just want to help and it kills us to sit in the comfort of our homes when so many children are hurting! There has to be something we can do to help!

Gravatar Image63 - I agree - what a wonderful opportunity to place orphaned children with loving families. Any word on this option for these children?

Gravatar Image64 - My family, too, is eager to foster Haitian orphans. We live in Atlanta suburbs, have four boys and plenty of room , resources, and love.

Gravatar Image65 - Our family would love to take in 1-2 children. Our home is big enough and are financially set to share love with these children. Please let me know what I can do.

Gravatar Image66 - My husband and I would gladly help with taking in a child in need and would go through whatever channels the Haitian government would require. Please let us know how we can help.

Gravatar Image67 - MY HUSBND AND I HAVE ADOPTED TWO CHILDREN THROUGH BETHANY. WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE OPPURTUNITY TO ASSIST AND
JOIN IN THE HUMANITARIAN DIFFERENCE. I
THINK FOR THOSE FAMILIES THAT HAVE COMPLETED AN INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION
COULD HAVE IT EXPIDITED TO ADOPT. WE CERTAINLY WOULD CONSIDER 2 CHILDREN OF
SCHOOL AGE.

Gravatar Image68 - My husband and I would like to know how we can get information on adopting a child from Haiti also. We already have 3 adopted children and have the love and means to give a child a home. Please let us know if there is any way we could do this. We feel the Lord really tugging at our heart about these children.

Gravatar Image69 - Add us to the list. We have lots of room and a big farm. Willing to help.

Gravatar Image70 - I too would love to be able to take in one one the Haitian children on a temporary basis! We are empty-nesters in the Rockford, MI area. It would e an honor to care for one of these little angels.
Thanks and God Bless

Gravatar Image71 - We would consider it a privilege to also take in one or two of these precious children, if it is at all possible. We would love to give these children a secure and loving home.

Gravatar Image72 - We would consider it a privilege to also take in one or two of these precious children, if it is at all possible. We would love to give these children a secure and loving home.

Gravatar Image73 - My husband and I were also wondering if it would be possible for us to bring these children into our home. Since we have all of our clearances and home study up to date, is there a way to allow us to foster these children on an emergency basis?

Gravatar Image74 - We too would LOVE to adopt (or even temporarily) one or two of these children! We have known we'd adopt again someday soon and with all that is happening with these children in Haiti, I cannot stop thinking and praying for them. PLEASE let us know if this is something that is possible.

Gravatar Image75 - I diddo what Traci said above! Would be more than willing to adopt one or two of these children and go through the necessary paperwork!

Gravatar Image76 - We adopted a year ago and have an up to date home study/background check. If we are able to help in any way please contact us! We could take a child for a short term or are also able to adopt.

Gravatar Image77 - My husband and I would also love to care for a child from Haiti - temporarily or permanently! We'll do whatever we have to so we can love one of these children!

Gravatar Image78 - It is my dream to adopt from Haiti but as some made comments above, I also am not 35. But I'd love to help!

Gravatar Image79 - I have just attended the international and domestic adoption orientations, but I am really ready to adopt now. I will be doing this as a single parent, but if there are any children available I would love for them to be a part of my home.

Gravatar Image80 - My wife and I would like to open our home to as many Haitian orphans as we can get. They would be a great addition to the other 8 children already here. What should we do in order to be ready?Emoticon Emoticon

Gravatar Image81 - Our family is also interested in help by adopting one or two orphaned children from Hati.

Gravatar Image82 - We would love to be foster parents for the children Haiti. We are in the process of adopting from China, but would love to help out 1 or 2 kids. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help!!!!

Gravatar Image83 - Here is a link to a government site, lettin us know what the options are right now...praying that doors will be opened for quick/safe adoption!

{ Link }

Gravatar Image84 - My husband and I have been married for 10 years and are unable to have childern. We would love to adopt one or more of the Haitian children.. We pray that our government opens the door to bring these children into the USA. Please let us know.....We have taken the foster care classes through our state and would love to give a permanent home to one or more of these children. Our prayers are with each and everyone at this difficult time.

Gravatar Image85 - Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in opening your home to a child from Haiti, whether through adoption or foster care.

We are truly overwhelmed by the quick and generous response from our Bethany families and supporters.
It is a blessing to know that there
are so many people out there who are willing to open their hearts and homes to care for these children.

We would like to respond to the many comments posted on this blog about the possibility of adoption or foster care from Haiti.

Bethany Christian Services is a member of the National Council For Adoption (NCFA), which recently released this statement:

The NCFA and other adoption advocates are very concerned about the potential for child trafficking in Haiti. As such, NCFA urges that there be no expedited efforts made to process new adoptions in Haiti. Additionally, NCFA discourages the altruistic practice commonly referred to as "baby lifts." Adequate time is needed to ensure that presumably orphaned children have no surviving family. Even in the name of humanitarian interest, we cannot risk the premature adoptions of vulnerable children who may have been separated from their families by this tragedy.

Bethany is in agreement with the NCFA statement. We are an advocate for the child, so that their best interests are being met.

Bethany’s hope for the new orphans is to help them stay in Haiti where it makes sense. For example, if there are Haitian families with love in their heart and the means to take care of an orphan child, we want to make sure they are given that opportunity.

We appreciate the outpouring compassion and interest in families considering adopting orphans from Haiti. We received hundreds of additional applications in the first two days after the earthquake. After any crisis, it’s going to take months before there’s a thorough review of whether these children have any family in Haiti before the adoption process begins.

After it is determined that a child does not have a suitable family to care for them in Haiti, the adoption process will then begin. Traditionally, the adoption process in Haiti takes between 18 to 24 months. While we will advocate streamlining the adoption process due to the circumstances, it’s not something we can guarantee.

For more information on adopting a child from Haiti, including fees, children that are available for adoption, and country requirements, please visit www.bethany.org/haiti. At this time, no information has been released as to whether or not age or other requirements for adoptive parents will be changed. If we do receive any such information, we will post an update on this blog.
To fill out a preliminary adoption application, visit www.bethany.org.

Bethany Christian Services is also planning to schedule a national webinar on Haiti adoptions. Please watch our blog for an announcement regarding the schedule of that webinar.

Gravatar Image86 - My husband and I are also willing to be used by the Lord to give these children without a home a safe place to stay and the things they need. We are not 35 but would love to be used if we can. Children are a blessing from the Lord and these children in Haiti are no exception. Please let us know if we can do anything.

Gravatar Image87 - Too bad the world and organizations cannot expedite the children who they KNOW need homes.

I would love a 8 - 13 yr old girl in my secure home. But will not pay 10 to 20 thousand to get her here. The whole idea is to indeed SAVE these children from further harm. I also like the idea of fostering until perhaps blood relatives can find their ways to the orphanage to ID their children through picture, videos and whatever documented info on the children can be investigated.

Gravatar Image88 - We've completed two home studies: one for a private international adoption and one for the state of Nevada. We would love to adopt 1 or 2 Haitian orphans.....Please let us know! Thank you! Steve and Karen Culverwell

Gravatar Image89 - Hola:

Gravatar Image90 - yes,my husand and I, would love to provide temporary or permanent adoption for 1-2 children from Haiti asap We have the time, space, love and means to do this. what do we need to do right now? contact us

Gravatar Image91 - Please keep me updated on the status of adoption or foster care for Haiti. Are there steps we can take now to prepare for foster or adoptive care? Thanks!

Gravatar Image92 - Thank you for your interest and care for the children and families in crisis in Haiti following the tragic earthquake. To follow the latest information about the children in the adoption process before the earthquake, please visit our Haiti blog.

For all of you have who have expressed interest in opening your home to a child from Haiti, we greatly appreciate your care and concern. We are truly overwhelmed by the quick and generous response from our Bethany families and supporters. It is a blessing to know that there are so many people out there who are willing to open their hearts and homes to care for these children.

As this tragedy has created many more orphans, Bethany as a professional and accredited adoption agency follows international conventions and laws to help these children stay in Haiti if a good situation can be found. For example, if there are Haitian families with love and the means to take care of an orphan child, we want to make sure they are given that opportunity. After a crisis of this magnitude, it’s going to take months before there’s a thorough review of whether these children have any family in Haiti before the adoption process begins.

After it is determined that a child does not have a suitable family to care for them in Haiti, the adoption process will then begin. Traditionally, the adoption process in Haiti takes between 18 to 24 months. While we will advocate streamlining the adoption process due to the circumstances, it’s not something we can guarantee.

If you feel called to adopt a child from Haiti or any other country, please fill out a free preliminary adoption application, visit www.bethany.org/prelim.

Bethany Christian Services is also planning to schedule a national webinar on Haiti adoptions. Please watch our blog for an announcement regarding the schedule of that webinar.

Donations are Critically Needed
We are also welcoming donations to help the children in Haiti through www.bethany.org/donate webpage.

Gravatar Image93 - I am with #15 above. I would love to adopt a child as well. However we do not fit your criteria but provide a loving Christian environment. I have not been married 10 years (only 5 1/2), my husband and I both married young which resulted in divorces but yet raising 5 girls 2 of which are now adults feel Gods hand placing us to help in this tragic situation but yet rules and stipulations are keeping us from adopting through your organization in which we trust.
