Dear Bethany-China Families,
You may recall a few months ago, we announced the coming of the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA) orphanage donation increase. This is the first time in the history of China adoptions the orphanage donation is being increased. With the growing need to care for the children and in support of the special needs children that remain in the orphanage, the time has come to increase the donation.
Previously, the orphanage donation was set at $3,000 USD. For any adoptive placement (the day you receive your child) occurring on or after January 1, 2009, the orphanage donation will be issued in Chinese RMB in the sum of 35,000. Depending on the day, this converts to approximately $5,000 USD. With today's conversion rates of the U.S. dollar, it equals $5,090.76 USD. Please reference this currency exchange website (or any other) for accurate and daily conversion rates: Currency Converter
Bethany Christian Services has prepared families for a few months regarding this increase and we support CCAA's need to increase the orphanage donation. We believe CCAA is concerned and committed to the well-being of both adopted children and those "left behind." We also recognize the living expenses of these children and how the conversion of the U.S. dollar has changed. CCAA also hopes this increase will stimulate social welfare institutes (orphanages) to participate in Intercountry Adoption as a means to help provide for the children they care for.
While this is an increase of approximately $2,000 USD that families give directly to the orphanages, we recognize that it may be an additional unplanned/unexpected expense or even a hardship for some families. We encourage families to consult with their local social workers for creative adoption financing options. The China Team would like to extend our appreciation for your support and cooperation toward the care and compassion of the children of China.
Sincerely,
~The China Team
