On November 1st, many people in Guatemala will take part in festivities to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos (also known as "Day of the Dead" or "All Saints Day"). Celebrations around the country include festivals mixing Mayan and Catholic traditions and visits to cemetaries where people will decorate gravesites and honor their dead. At this time, death is looked at joyfully, with an emphasis on the celebrating and honoring that life continues even after our physical bodies leave this earth.
It is important to also note that offices in Guatemala will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of this holiday.
