While in Guatemala last week we were made aware of a change that has now taken place with the issuance of visas at the US Embassy in Guatemala.  In the past, the Embassy has allowed a representative of the family to pick up the visa on the family's behalf.  This has been taken care of by our in-country representatives.  Official last week, the Embassy is no longer allowing representatives to obtain the visa on the family's behalf.  It is now required that the family (at least one parent) travel to the Embassy the day after their appointment to obtain the visa.  Families will now need to take a taxi to the Embassy on the afternoon after their appointment and obtain this and review it for any errors.
