Dixie sent the following update about the devastating school collapse in Pétion-Ville, and how you can help if you are interested.

As many of you may have heard on the news, a large, privately run school in Petion-ville, collapsed at 10 AM Friday morning, trapping as many as 700 students inside.

Rescuers worked through the night trying to rescue the children and are still working Saturday to pull children out from under the rubble.  They think that the school was structurally not sound which caused the collapse.

We spoke to the Mayor of Petionville, Lydie Parent, and she said that if anyone would like to help, funds are needed for hospital care and burial expenses for the children.  These families struggle to come up with the money for schooling for their children.  They will not be able to afford medical care for the children who survived nor can they afford to bury the children who did not.  The thought of a mass burial in the countryside for these children to me is not acceptable, but without financial help, this may be what happens.

If you would like to help, you can give with a credit card through PAYPAL by going on our web site at www.glahaiti.org , go to the bottom of the left hand side of the home page, and click on the "Make a donation" button.

You can also give by sending a check to:

Please indicate on the PAYPAL section in remarks (separate button on the left of the paypal page) that this is for the "School Disaster Aid".

Please, also keep the children, their families, and the rescue workers in your prayers.

Haiti has had one disaster after another this year.  It is so difficult to see so much suffering.
