Dixie is leaving today for the U.S. for the fundraiser that will be taking place on Saturday in Colorado. Before leaving, she sent out the following update:

IBESR

We have a new IBESR director!  Her name is Jeanne BERNARD.  She replaces Mme Beaudin, who has become the Minister of Social Affairs.  Mme Beaudin is directly over Mme Bernard.  During the radio interview announcing Mme Bernard's appointment, Mme Beaudin said everything would continue to go the same as when she was the Director.  We have been getting out dossiers, so hopefully the transition will be smooth.

OUT OF HAITI

John and I will be gone from October 29 through November 3.  Please pray for us as we travel.  We will be very busy with fundraising in Colorado, Washington, Florida and Canada.  Please pray that the fundraising will go well and we will receive enough funds to continue the building project at Fort Jacques.  We desperately need to get all of the children and volunteers in one location!

MICROSOFT in Seattle, Washington

We have been invited to go to Microsoft headquarters in Seattle and present GLA to their employees on October 10 during their charitable giving campaign.  Ten organizations in Haiti have been invited to go and we are very grateful that GLA was chosen.  Employees can choose charities to give to through payroll deduction.  There are 25,000 employees at Microsoft.  Please pray that we will be able to present the orphanage in a way that will make the employees want to support GLA and help build the new orphanage or sponsor some children in school.

UPCOMING FUNDRAISERS

October  4   Colorado Springs, Colorado  USA  (John and Dixie will be here.)

October 18    Edmonton, Alberta, Canada  (John and Dixie will be here.)

Go to www.glahaiti.org or www.glacanada.ca for more information.  Each fundraiser will include a meal and entertainment.

If you would like to put on a fundraiser where you live, please contact Doug at itsdoug@shaw.ca  or Holli at holli@glahaiti.org for ideas of how you can help raise funds to support the orphanage and new building project!

ROOFS REPAIRED and TREES TAKEN DOWN

We lost the roof over the babies' balcony when Tropical Storm Hannah blew threw our area.  Monday, the babies received a brand new roof so they can eat out of the sun and be protected from the rain.  Thank you, John Blair, Jack Lecot, and John Bickel!

We also had the trees on the land that had been uprooted by the storm cut up and stacked.  The trees that were still standing, but had the tops blown out of them, were cut down.

It will take Haiti a long time to clean up the damage caused by the storms.  There are many refugees living in tent cities out in the countryside.  Humanitarian aid has helped but we are suffering from lost crops and loss of homes.  Haiti says it needs 125 million to get back on it's feet after the storms!

NEW STAFF IN HAITI

Brad and Lois REIMER and their 2 children have joined our staff in Haiti as of September 2008.  Brad and Lois are from Edmonton, Alberta and adopted their son, Peter, from GLA 4 years ago.  Before joining GLA, Brad and Lois worked with OMS in Cap Haitian for a year.  Please pray that their transition goes smoothly and the children adapt well to their new lives at GLA!

Amanda JACKSON from Colorado is a teacher and is home schooling our son, Steeve, and Kalie and Peter Reimer.  Please pray for Amanda that she will enjoy what she is doing and the patient to deal with the children!

Susan WESTWOOD is a pediatric nurse from Scotland.  Susan has come to work at GLA for 6 months.  Her initiation was pretty rough.  The first day she was here, a child died in her arms!  Pray for her that she will be able to handle the reality of living in a 3rd world country and that she will be able to help our staff with new ideas!

I will send another update in November and a newsletter at the end of November!

And life in Haiti goes on...
