Staff in our office has been busy during July and August preparing and submitting our documents for re-accreditation with the Lithuanian Adoption Services. We have also been working with four families to prepare and submit their dossier and/or child acceptance documents for waiting children. Between now and Christmas we will welcome home two brothers and three girls. Court has been scheduled for two families. The others will be scheduled soon. Lithuania is also a Hague country. At this time we have not had any families filing under the new system; however, we do have some families in process that will file under Hague Convention guidelines. Family Law Center has been preparing their staff so that we do not experience delays in the process. Looking toward the New Year, 2009 will be a year of celebration in Lithuania. Special events will be scheduled throughout the country as they celebrate the Millennium for Lithuania being mentioned in literature. The first mention of the country occurred in the German medieval manuscript, the Quedlinburg Chronicle on the 14th of February 1009. The country will also celebrate their freedom and will host thousands of persons as the European Capital of Culture for 2009.
