Parenting "typically" developing children when there is a special needs child in the family

Parents often ask, "How can I meet the needs of all of my children?" In this workshop parents will learn strategies to build a positive family environment for all family members. The unique needs of "typically" developing children who have special needs siblings will be addressed. Topics such as explaining spe-cial needs to children, giving children a voice to express thoughts and feelings and the potential benefits of having a special needs sibling will be covered.
Training is appropriate for kinship, foster, pre-adoptive, waiting and adoptive families. Childcare will not be provided.
Cost for each training session is $20 per person or $30 per couple. Fees apply to all families attending.
Pre-registration is required. Payment must be received by 9/8/14.

Cheryl Walters, M.S., is a Licensed Psychologist since 1985. She is a Registered Clinician with ATTACh (Association for Treatment and Training in the Attachment of Children), as well as a Certified Theraplay Therapist. While employed at another agency, Cheryl designed, implemented, provided services and fulfilled the role of Supervisory/Consulting Psychologist in a specialized treatment program for children/adolescents and their parents/families with diagnoses associated with Reactive Attachment Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Developmental Trauma Disorder. As a specialist in the areas of attachment issues and early trauma, Cheryl has been providing psychotherapy services at Bethany Christian Services of Central PA since July 2013.
