Helping children with special needs through adoption

 Of all the children Bethany works with, those with special needs are among the most vulnerable. These children need the security of a family to call their own— a family committed to meeting their needs for medical and therapeutic care.

“Special needs” is a category covering social, medical, physical, and developmental challenges.  Children may be described to have special needs when they are:

• Older than age 5.
• Part of a sibling group that needs to be adopted together.
• Precious ones who have a history of trauma.
• Children with identified physical, developmental, or emotional delays/disabilities

Some children with special needs may require specialized short- or long-term care, but every child with special needs desperately need a family to give them love, attention, and understanding.  Could you open your heart and home to a precious child who needs your love and nurture?

Eligibility requirements vary from country to country and may be more flexible for applicants adopting children with special needs. For example, some countries encourage single applicants or larger families to apply. Other countries are more flexible with requirements when it comes to age or health history of applicants.

How will Bethany help us after the adoption?

At Bethany, we realize how important information and support are to adoptive families. Post-placement visits from Bethany staff are routine and required. However, we invite parents to contact us whenever questions arise. Adoption is a lifelong journey. You may find that you need support years after the adoption has been finalized. We will be here to help.
