Bethany Christian Services works with agencies accredited in Russia for the placement of children. Working with the coordination of their in-country staff, Bethany can assist families with an adoption from Russia. The services we provide include a Home Study, document preparation, and post-placement supervision.
Bethany began assisting families with adoption from Russia in 1997. We have provided services to more than 500 families for the placement of almost 700 children. All adoptions are processed through the Regional Ministry of Education and the children available for adoption reside in orphanages. There are baby homes for the children up to the age of 5 or 6 and boarding schools for the children who are school age. There can be from 50 to 250 children in each facility. There may be more than 700,000 orphans in Russia. Most of these children are orphans because their parents are unable to provide for them.
Many people picture Russian children as having fair skin and blue eyes, but there are ethnic minorities throughout the country who have darker complexions or are of Eurasian background. Many children who are older or who have either minor or more significant special needs wait for a family to adopt them. All children from orphanages will have some developmental or institutional delays.
