Providing Continued Support

Bethany is committed to providing quality social services that enhance the lives of those impacted by adoption. Knowing that adoption creates unique needs and challenges after your adoption is finalized, we created the Post-Adoption Contact Center (PACC). Available by phone or e-mail, PACC is staffed by adoption-competent professionals that provide support, education, and referral assistance.


Who Can Receive Help?

While your branch office is often the best informed about resources in your local community, the Contact Center is also ready to provide support and information to anyone seeking help after adoption. ANY birthfamily members, adult adoptees, and adoptive family members throughout the United States can contact the center. You do not have to be a current or former Bethany client.

What Services Are Offered?

The contact center offers the following services nationwide:

  • Free initial consultation
  • Timely responses with information
  • One-on-one assistance with researching and accessing services
  • Developing a goal
  • Extended consultation options

What Concerns Can Be Addressed?

Some examples of common post-adoption concerns include:

  • Grief and loss
  • Openness in adoption
  • Trust and attachment
  • Identity and life stages of adoption
  • Family dynamics and adoption adjustment
  • Trauma, abuse, and neglect
  • Challenging behavior
  • Planning for birthfamily search

Extended Consultation

For those who need extra, but less formal support, extended consultation is available. Scheduled as a virtual meeting or phone call, one-on-one guidance can be scheduled at your convenience. Types of issues discussed include: 

  • Adoptive parents might use this as additional support during a challenging situation or to learn more about a particular adoption-related issue.
  • Birth family or adult adoptees might access this service to help navigate the social/emotional aspects of search and reunion.

These exchanges are typically 60 minutes and can be purchased individually for $50 per 30 minutes. Please be aware that consultation calls are not considered clinical counseling and will not be billable through insurance providers. Payment is due at the time of service. 

About the consultant: Angela Welch is the lead post-adoption consultant for Bethany Christian Services’ Post Adoption Contact Center, a national resource for all members of the adoption triad. As a licensed, adoption-competent clinician, she has completed Rutgers University’s Adoption Certificate program and has been trained in many research-based therapeutic modalities and interventions. These include training on assessing adult attachment, Texas Christian University Institute of Child Development’s Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) with Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross, and Bethany’s ADOPTS counseling model. Angela is passionate about assisting all who are connected to adoption and empowering them with the knowledge and tools to navigate the unique aspects of life after adoption.
