Safe Families for Children™ Church Criteria

Churches of all sizes are necessary to provide for vulnerable children within our communities. As a partner, we ask that all churches:

  • Be a community of faith committed to reaching out to your local community in an effort to prevent child abuse and tangibly express love to families experiencing a crisis.

  • Select a staff member as a liaison for Safe Families for Children Volunteer Leadership.

  • Accept the child and his/her parents. Promote acceptance within the SFFC family and congregation.

  • Continue to promote SFFC and opportunities for families and individuals to be involved.

  • Notify the Family Coach or host agencies of any concerns related to a volunteer host family's ability to nurture or meet the health, safety, and supervision needs of children within the Safe Families for Children ministry.

Steps to Become a Safe Families for Children Church

  1. Fill out the online church profile form including a staff contact that will represent the volunteer ministry.

  2. Meet with local Safe Families for Children agency to select a ministry launch date and to discuss your plan to share SFFC with your congregation.

  3. Work with local agency as they initially handle administrative duties and case management as you create or implement SFFC within your existing church ministries or start a new one. (This step is only for churches that select this level of involvement).

  4. Once you identify volunteer leadership, your local agency will help to train and support them as they begin to tackle their new roles. (This step is only for churches that select this level of involvement).
