Bethany Christian Services receives $124,000 grant to help fathers build community

April 23, 2024

HOLLAND, Mich. – Bethany Christian Services was recently awarded a $124,000 grant from the Children’s Trust of Michigan to help fathers engage in their communities through Dad Cafés in Ottawa County.

Dad Cafés offer a supportive community for fathers to discuss their unique challenges and experiences. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, about 1 in 10 men will experience depression at some point in their life, and 15 percent of men report having no close friendships.

“Men need to know that whatever they’re facing as a dad, they’re not in it alone,” said Anthony Quinn, Bethany Christian Services Café Facilitator. “When they have questions or challenges, they want to know that someone understands and has their back. Dad Cafés are an ideal place for dads to feel supported, as well as to share concerns and accomplishments that are unique to fathers.”

The initial launch of the Dad Café will be on Thursday, May 2, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Escape Ministries, located at 202 East 32nd Street in Holland. Cafés will continue every four to six weeks, with dinner provided and raffles for gift cards and prizes.
