DESCRIPTION

During this 90-minute webinar, Jaclyn Skalnik will:

  • Offer an adoption-focused perspective on adolescents.
  • Help parents distinguish between “typical” teenage behaviors and those that may be connected to adoption-related trauma.
  • Provide techniques to listen, affirm, and support adopted tweens and teens.
  • Define three resources for adoptive parents seeking support.

About Jaclyn Skalnik: Jaclyn Skalnik, LCSW, is the founder of Adoption Wellness. Adoption Wellness provides psychotherapy for adopted persons and their families, community education, advocacy, and training for adoption professionals and adoptive families. Jaclyn earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin and is an advanced practice social worker, a trained mediator, and a licensed clinical social worker specializing in adoption-competent, trauma-informed psychotherapy. She has assisted adoptive families throughout their adoption process for nearly two decades in both private and public sectors, presented and trained at global conferences, and travels internationally on homeland trips throughout Asia and Latin America. Jaclyn enjoys life as a wife and mother and draws from her experiences as an international, transracially adopted person when advocating on behalf of children who deserve permanency in a loving, healthy, and prepared family.
